Our Story

The GRAND COUNCIL OF CRYPTIC MASONS OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK is the governing body for the Cryptic Rite of Freemasonry within the State of New York. Cryptic Masonry — named for the hidden vault, or crypt, at the heart of its teachings — has long served as a place where members deepen their understanding of the craft's history, symbolism, and moral lessons.

Over generations, our constituent councils have grown from small gatherings of members into active civic institutions. Alongside our ceremonial and educational life, the Council has always carried a second calling: service. Members have organized relief for families in crisis, supported local schools and hospitals, and given their time to the cities and towns they call home.

Today we carry that legacy forward as a legally registered non-profit organization in the United States (Charity ID: 42-1703017), with our administrative office at 73 Warwick St, Newark, NJ 07105, United States, serving members and communities across New York and New Jersey.

Governance & Structure

The Council is governed by a body of elected officers and representatives of each constituent council, under a written constitution and bylaws. Our structure includes:

  • Grand Officers, elected by the membership, who oversee strategy, finances, and programs.
  • Constituent Councils, the local bodies that deliver fellowship, education, and community service.
  • Standing Committees for charity, education, finance, and membership development.
  • Annual Assembly, where officers report to members and the year's accounts are reviewed.

Leadership Commitment

Those who lead the Council commit to serve without personal financial gain, to disclose conflicts of interest, and to manage charitable resources prudently and transparently. Leadership is a duty of service, not a title.
